Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra Sustainability Policy
Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our everyday practice. We will encourage visiting musicians, soloists and audience to do the same.
RESPONSIBILITY
The ‘sustainability’ representative/s of the SPO committee are responsible for ensuring that the environmental policy is implemented. However, all members should endeavour to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.
POLICY AIMS
We will continually aim to improve and reduce environmental impacts wherever possible.
TRANSPORTATION
- We will encourage environmentally friendly travel options where possible, such as lift sharing and the use of public transport.
- When proposals are made for going on tour or foreign travel we will look for the greenest options.
- We will promote the use of travel alternatives such as e-mail, video, or phone conferencing when possible and/or appropriate.
ENERGY AND WATER
- The SPO are pleased to use to Slaithwaite Civic Hall and will endeavour to use the facilities in such a way as to reduce their carbon footprint whenever and however possible.
- We will seek to reduce the amount of energy and water used as much as possible.
- Heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind.
- We will consider the environmental impact of how we save and store documents.
PAPER
- We will minimise the use of paper and consider ways that publicity and programmes could be produced digitally, always bearing in mind those that might not have the wherewithal to access such items.
- We will seek to buy recycled and recyclable paper products.
- We will reuse and recycle all paper where possible.
- We should continue to hire rather than print music whenever possible.
RESOURCES
- Reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible
- Consider the environmental impact when purchasing any new items and finding sustainable alternatives when possible.
CULTURE
- We will involve members in the implementation of this policy.
- We will update this policy annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where necessary.
